Kanban Coaching Workshop

3-Day Workshop Curriculum

Kanban Coaching Workshop with David J. Anderson

This workshop is an opportunity to learn and share knowledge about coaching the introduction of kanban in an organization. It will establish a community of coaching practitioners that David J. Anderson and Associates can recommend.

Participants will discuss the organizational and cultural challenges facing coaches who are leading a transition to a more agile and lean way of working. There will be particular emphasis on how to answer the hard questions that arise with clients.

Day1: Getting started with kanban. Why to use a kanban WIP-limited pull system and when kanban would be most appropriate. How to introduce kanban and how to get started toward a kaizen culture. Case studies from prior implementations will be used as the basis for the discussion.

Day2: The mechanics of kanban. Kanbanboards, workflow, valuestreammapping, workitemtype definition, information for visual control, and classes of service. Kaizen events and opportunities for improvement. There will be a focus on bottlenecks and variation including Edward Deming’s System of Profound Knowledge.

Day3: Overview and discussion. Lean economic model and the elimination of waste. Open discussion of topics from Day1 and Day2, and addressing questions from all 3 days.

Benefits

Participants will receive a copy of David J. Anderson’s new book “Kanban – Successful Change Management for Technology Organizations”, a Limited WIP Society t-shirt, and a personal reference from David J. Anderson including the option of a LinkedIn recommendation.

A considerable part of the value of attending this workshop is the shared knowledge from the personal experiences of all attendees.

Since not everything can be learned about coaching kanban in a 3-day session, participants will leave with a list of questions to pursue with clients and a long list of reading references.

Who should attend

The kanban coaching workshops are deliberately kept small (maximum 12 participants). Each participant must be an experienced kanban practitioner or a recognized agile, lean or project management coach with considerable years of industry-fuelled experience. Previous attendees have included well-known agile community contributors such as Martine Devos and Rachel Davies.

As an agile coach, I want to understand more about the human aspect and how to introduce a team to Kanban.” –Rachel Davies, Agile Coach and Agile Alliance Director

“Loving the Kanban coaching workshop by @agilemanager the real life examples and experience is worth weight in gold” –David Joyce, BBC Worldwide, via Twitter
